Two years ago today on Friday, September 22, 2006, Aaron and I purchased the house where we live. We bought the house from a lady who loved cats (thank goodness she took the carpet out before we saw it) and dark wall colors. But even from the beginning we knew the house had *good bones*.
What actually sold us on the house was the yard. The first time Aaron and I pulled into the drive and walked around in the yard, I knew this was the place for us---and I hadn't even seen the inside of the house, yet. Our half acre yard is very park like with 14 huge full grown trees and very flat. I just knew it would be our little country in the mist of a city.
We have done a lot of home improvements since we bought the house. I was shocked at how long the list actually is when I started to write them down.
Done:
1. Remove & fix drywall for cat holes, phone booth in the hall, and old wall heaters.
2. Relocate water heater to under the house, creating more space in the laundry room.
3. Dig up 9 bushes.
4. Refinish the hardwood floors and put down shoe molding.
5. Replace both toilets.
6. Replace bathroom vanity.
7. Paint almost every room in the house.
8. Bushwhacked the front fence line. And than later, remove the chain link fence, extend the backyard, and replace with a privacy fence.
9. Fence the entire side yard.
10. Install above ground swimming pool.
11. Build a huge flower bed.
12. Replace front metal storm door with a solid glass storm door.
13. Install garbage disposal.
14. Install overhead lighting in the living room.
15. Cut down and remove dead tree.
I am also shocked of how long our To Do list still is. Of course it seems every time we move an item from the To Do list to the Done list, we add another item to the To Do list.
To Do:
1. Remove and replace carpeted steps and carpet in dining room.
2. Deck around the pool.
3. Build a patio.
4. Create doorway to patio.
5. Build gazebo and install hot tub.
And of course our current In Progress list includes repaint the front porch and hang our swing.
We have come a long way in two years. I am excited to see what the next two hold for us and our little house with a huge yard.
